Partisans were the unseen heroes of the Holocaust. But one young Jewish partisan had a camera. Toronto survivor Faye Schulman’s rare images capture the anguish, bravery and camaraderie in fighting back against the Nazis and their collaborators.
Schulman’s photo exhibition has toured North America, and recently in Toronto at the Miles Nadal JCC, presented by the Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation, the Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre, together with Facing History and Ourselves.

Photos were very rare in the partisans forests especially of Jewish partisans. Only in the year 1944 before the liberation arrived Soviet diversion groups and commanders between them reportes who have taken photos for the Soviet press and propaganda. Maybe there are more photos in the archives of the Soviet authorities. I was a partisan in the the brigade ” Lenin ” of the region of Pinsk and participated in the fights against the Germans to liberate the region of Pinsk and participated in the march of the liberated town of Pinsk.
